A few people have contacted me to say how disappointed they are that the Diss Express carries letters from readers criticising the service they have received in shops in Diss.
Human nature tends to be only to speak out when you've got something to complain about, although there have been regular instances of good service being praised.
I have had some outstanding service at shops such as Sanda's sandwich bar in Market P
lace, The Cycle Shack in Chapel Street, Madgetts Cycles in Shelfanger Road, and at businesses including Style Kitchens in Vinces Road, Complete Flooring in Victoria Road and John Doe in St Nicholas Street. Colleagues have similar good reports about the Sweet Shop in Norfolk House Yard, Leisure Sport and Taylor Electrical in Mere Street as well as Perfect Vision on Market Hill. I'm sure there are many more examples.
Unfortunately, I know from personal experience that there are also cases of poor customer service. I won't embarrass them by naming it but I refuse to use one establishment. I was ignored while the owner continued a conversation with his shop assistant about the previous night's football and on a second visit had to put up with him jabbing his finger at the price label and holding out his hand demanding payment while continuing a mobile phone conversation about what he wanted for tea that evening.
While I do believe people should be able to point out instances of bad customer service, I now challenge more readers of the Diss Express to write and tell us about good customer service.
Let everyone know about the shops and businesses you use regularly because you know you will get a friendly word and helpful advice. The business which comes out with the most favourable comments will receive an award.
