It's amazing how the recent sunshine and Mediterranean-style temperatures have lifted everyone's spirits.
People were smiling at each other in the street. Jumpers and coats were recklessly abandoned and men were out in shorts and girls in strappy tops and floaty dresses.
Sun loungers and patio sets came out of hiding and we were all out in our gardens from sun up to sun down.
We Brits love talking about the weather and just for once we were able to say "Isn't this sunshine fantastic?" rather than "How much longer is this awful rain going to last?"
Usually we have to go abroad for this sort of weather. For once, it came to us.
It happened at a particularly lovely time of year too. Spring is the best season for me because all the trees are coming into lush green leaf and all my favourite cottage garden plants are bursting into flower, so it was a joy to be out in the warm air taking full advantage of it all.
It was all the more valued because we knew at heart it just wasn't going to last – in fact, that may well have been our dose of sunshine for this year, such are the vagaries of our good old British weather!
Our usual rain-soaked summers are tiresome and depressing – leaden skies and grey clouds don't exactly put a smile on your face.
But, we have to remember it is this abundant supply of water that makes ours such a green and pleasant land to live in.
We can't have it both ways – so I guess it is just as well that the weather really is in the lap of the gods and we have no choice but to go with the flow.
