The Laxfield Festival of Tolerance has been axed this year but reasons for the cancellation are disputed.
Last year was the
450th anniversary of the festival and it was due to take place again on September 22.
Event organiser Simon Gallo said: "People think it's too much trouble. They think it's too much inconvenience shutting the road. People love to see something fail."
But
Laxfield parish chairman, Tony Oakes, said people in general were supportive of the event and the cancellation was due to rising costs.
"The festival costs more than £10,000 to put on and we have winged it a bit in the last three years," he said. "We have just had the village hall refurbished so we need to be a bit careful."
In response, Mr Gallo said: "That's absolutely wrong. The money is not in question." He claimed the reason the event was cancelled was because it was not given the go-ahead until April – when it was too late to organise music events.
But he said he would do all he can to ensure the event goes ahead next year.
