Pop stars from the 1970s and 1980s will headline a festival in Attleborough to mark the handover of the Olympic Games from Beijing to London this summer.
And it promises to be a trip down memory lane with performances from Hot Chocolate, famous for hits including You Sexy Thing, teddy boy rockers Showaddywaddy and Suzi Quatro, who had number one UK hits with Can The Can and Devil Gate Drive.

Part
of a wider festival launched by Breckland Council on August 24, which combines sport, leisure and culture, the flagship event takes place on September 13, at Attleborough Recreation Ground.

A Breckland Council spokesman said the high profile event will be the ultimate outdoor music experience, bringing together household names with local musical talent in the biggest musical event seen in the district.

Attleborough town councillor Nigel Keach said the event was an opportunity for the town and said the council has been told tracks will be laid down to prevent vehicles damaging the Recreation Ground’s grass surface.

He said: “This will put Attleborough on the map. The Party On The Park event during the carnival always goes down well, so I see no reason why this shouldn’t either.”

The event is also a showcase for local musical talent.

The Union Jacks, who have recorded at Leeders Farm in Spooner Row, the studio owned by former Darkness guitarist Dan Hawkins, will perform, joined by Dysfunction and The Crush.

Breckland has been organising, supporting and promoting a whole range of sporting and cultural activity across the district over the three weeks of the Breckfest Festival, including opportunities to participate in singing, music making, theatre, dancing, creative writing, football, running, golfing, boxing and swimming.

Tickets are £17 for the concert and are available by contacting 01362 656875, the 24-hour number, 08444 771000, or on the Breckfest website.
