I was delighted to join Diss Infants and Nursery Community School to celebrate its new National Healthy School Status.
To qualify, the school held healthy lifestyle events throughout the year including Food Focus days and Food and Fitness days.
The children cooked healthy food in class the school encouraged children to bring more wholesome packed lunches.
Par
ents helped out with practical food sessions and the school also sent home information and recipes.
The school is part of the Free Fruit Scheme for under-sevens in which children receive a piece of fruit each day they are at school and the nursery children also receive free milk.
All young children should be encouraged to make healthy eating a lifetime habit.
Well done to headteacher Barbara Keys in promoting this worthwhile project.
It is yet another success to add to the school's many health and fitness awards.
BUSINESS ON SHOW
I enjoyed the Diss Business Forum's first business fair, Diss on View, last Friday.
About 40 local traders and businesses packed the Corn Hall for two days to showcase their products and expertise.
It was good to see the variety of local businesses
which Diss has to offer.
There was something of interest for everyone with information on finance, legal matters, transport, food and drink and much more.
The hand-made chocolate stand was conveniently located opposite the slimming counter!
There were free seminars on a variety of business topics and I hope the success of Diss on View this year will ensure that it becomes an annual event.
Congratulations to Diss Business Forum for staging it.
LITTER BLITZ
South Norfolk Council's new campaign to "put our environment first in everything we do" is good news.
There is now a freephone number for reporting environmental crimes in the area such as litter, fly-tipping and graffiti.
You can also use the number to report vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
The council's new graffiti-cleaning machine is also now in use and I watched it in action last week.
The machine is a small trailer unit with its own water tank which supplies a high pressure jet of water.
The graffiti is first dabbed with bio-degradable chemicals and then the pressure jet comes into play to remove any offending marks.
If you want to keep South Norfolk free of litter, graffiti and also do your bit to fight anti-social behaviour, the freephone number to call is 0808 168 2999.
