Obituary: David Lawes
St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, Hoxne was packed on December 28 for the funeral of David Albert Edward Lawes, affectionately known as Dandy.
He had passed away on December 14, aged 75.
A cheerful, uncomplaining man, an animal lover and great family man, David lived in Botesdale with his wife of 40 years, Christine, He also leaves children Kevin, Debbie and Stuart and stepdaughter Karen.
David’s great love was the Royal British Legion, his Legion colleague, John Elliot, in a moving eulogy said, Dandy was a big man with a big heart. John added that Mr Lawer was a great sports lover, a Norwich City fan, he was involved with Hoxne Football Club, played cricket for Hoxne and captained the notable Hoxne Red Lion Darts team.
The service was conducted by Peter Schleer, who said that David was a determined character, who bore his final illness with great fortitude.
He had attended Hoxne Primary School, served his National Service in the RAF, including a spell in Australia. Initially a road man, David worked for over 50 years for the coach firm Simonds of Botesdale.
After the burial in Hoxne Churchyard, a reception was held at the Billingford Horseshoes. Donations, to be shared between the Royal British Legion and the Botesdale Health Centre, can be made through the undertakers, Rosedale Funeral Homes of 63 Victoria Road, Diss, Norfolk, IP22 4JE
