Obituary: Charlie Flatman
A service for the life and thanksgiving for Charlie Flatman was held on Wednesday January 9 at St Mary of Pity, Burgate Church, who after a short illness bravely fought sadly died on December 23.
Two hundred and fifty people attended a very moving service which was conducted by Rev Ginny Manning and the organist was Elaine Halton. Charlie’s family were the pallbearers which carried him into church to the music ‘Have I told you lately’ by Rod Stewart were his sons Justin and Tom, Karl and David Flatman his two brothers, and Colin Buckmaster and Stephen Goddard two brothers-in-laws.
Thoughts and Reflections written by Gill, his wife, were read by Rev Ginny, poem ‘Not how did he die’ read by nephew Josh Goddard, tribute by nieces Carrie and Suzie read by Andy Barrett, tribute from Diss and Eye Fishing Club by Nigel Bryant, photographic celebration of Charlie’s life by Justin and Tom, words of reflection and hope Rev Ginny, who said Charlie was a loving husband to Gill and father to Justin and Tom, he was very liked and respected in his short life he had managed to achieve such a lot. He was a member of Wortham Tennis Club and the Diss and Eye Fishing Club.
Family mourners were the widow, Mr J Flatman, Mr T Flatman, Mr C Flatman, Mr and Mrs R Ashwell, Mr and Mrs K Flatman, Mr and Mrs D Flatman,Mr and Mrs W Goddard, Mr and Mrs S Goddard, Mr and Mrs C Buckmaster, Mr and Mrs J Spelling, Mr and Mrs A Barrett, Mr J Flatman, Mr and Mrs G Cook, Jack, Ben and Alice Buckmaster, Josh Goddard.
Final prayers and blessings were said, exit music was ‘Sailing’ by Rod Stewart. Private cremation followed at Risby Crematorium Bury St Edmunds, Donations for Pancreatic Cancer UK and St Nicholas Hospice may be sent c/o Rosedale Funeral Home, 63 Victoria Road, Diss, IP22 4JE.
