Monster pumpkin is ripe for Hallowe’en
Starston, Norfolk. Kevin Roper with his 290lb pumpkin which he grew in his garden
Can there have been a bigger pumpkin in the Diss Express area this Hallowe’en?
Kevin Roper, of Starston, grew the 290lb vegetable beast as part of a local competition run by Sarah and Andy Willett. It is just under two-feet tall, and nine-feet round.
Mr Roper, who grew the pumpkin he has called Percy in his garden, and believes a combination of nitrogen from grass cuttings and a good dose of sun and rain helped it grow, said: “The problem now is what to do with him, as there is only just so much pumpkin pie you can eat. We may take him to a local gathering in the village this weekend in the hope that residents will cut a piece and make their own favourite recipe.”
