Legions on parade in tribute to war dead
REMEMBRANCE Sunday falls on November 11 this year, the actual anniversary of the Armistice.
Remembrance Day parades and services will be taking place throughout the area, with marchpasts and wreath-laying ceremonies taking place at war memorials.
Many church-goers as well as those taking part in parades will observe the two-minute silence at 11am.
In Diss, the town’s Royal British Legion (RBL) branch plans to cater for those not attending church services with a gathering to include the congregation of St Mary’s Church in the market place to observe the two-minute silence from 10.55am to 11.05am. The Rev Canon Tony Billett will also say a few words.
Then in the afternoon, the annual parade, march-past and laying of wreaths will take place at the war memorial in Mount Street at 2.20pm.
Taking part will be members of the Royal British Legion, Army Cadet Force, Air Training Corps and Scouts, Guides, Cub-Scouts and Brownies, as well as members of the emergency services and other organisations.
There will be a short Act of Remembrance and a trumpeter will sound the Last Post, after which there will be a service in St Mary’s from 3pm.
In Harleston, the town’s annual Remembrance Parade on Sunday will form in Market Place at 10.30am, marching to the war memorial at 10.45am for a short service and wreath laying, to be followed by a memorial service in St John’s Church at 11.15am.
The Harleston & District RBL’s final figure for the town’s 2011/12 Poppy Appeal was £7,470.21.
Eye’s annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony will see local groups meeting at the fire station at 10.30am to parade to the war memorial for around 10.45am to lay wreaths and honour the two-minute silence.
The parade will then make its way to St Peter and St Paul church for a Remembrance Sunday service. Broad Street and Church Street will be temporarily closed, with delays most likely between 10.30am and 11.15am and again between noon and 12.30pm.
In Stradbroke, the Act of Remembrance starts at 10.50am at the war memorial, with the Last Post and Reveille and a few words from the Rev Susan Loxton.
There will then be a service in All Saints Church.
In Attleborough, those taking part in the parade will meet in Edenside car park at 10.20am, marching off at 10.30am from Edenside to the war memorial for the Act of Remembrance, the laying of wreaths, two-minute silence and Last Post and Reveille.
The parade will then continue to the church for a service.
Road closures will be in place.
