Dr Dan writes: north Suffolk MP Dr Dan Poulter’s Diss Express column
- It has been a particularly busy few weeks for me, dividing my time between settling into my new role as a Government Health Minister and carrying on my constituency work as usual as part of my busy schedule in Suffolk.
I always enjoy coming back to north Suffolk to visit community groups, businesses and schools. Getting out and about gives me the chance to listen to peoples’ opinions and to hear about their concerns on issues ranging from the economy to local health and social care services.
As your local MP, I always enjoy supporting local causes that are important to my constituents and one of the most satisfying parts of my job lies in helping to achieve lasting local successes that benefit all residents.
- It was recently announced that every household, business premise and school in Suffolk will be guaranteed high speed broadband by 2015, after BT was chosen as the preferred bidder to start work on rolling out faster internet speeds.
Along with my fellow Suffolk MPs, I worked hard to ensure that more than £11.6 million of Government funding was secured for this vital infrastructure project. This will benefit local economic development by advantaging small businesses and farmers, while bringing enormous benefits to local health services and helping improve educational standards across Suffolk.
- I was recently delighted to start the 1st Eye Scout Group Duck Race at the Pennings Nature Reserve in Ludgate Causeway.
The annual event has become a popular fixture among local residents and this year 755 ducks lined up on the River Dove.
I was able to chat to residents before presenting the prizes and I also helped to judge the duck-drawing and duck-made-out-of-vegetable competitions. It is thought nearly £2,000 was raised, with the proceeds going towards the Scout group’s bid to move into a new home. I would like to thank Eye Town Mayor Merlin Carr, for helping to organise such a successful event.
