New columnist Brigitte Girling explains ways you can de-clutter your life.
Living in a consumer-driven, time poor society it is little wonder that we can find aspects of our lives spiralling out of control, leading to disorganisation and clutter.

In this new column I will help you spot the clutter in your life and give you some handy tips and hints on how to remove it.

But first – how can you tell if your life is more cluttered than it needs to be? Check out these ten giveaway signs and see how many you can relate to.

1. Losing things happens daily – your keys, wallet and handbag are always disappearing!
2. So many clothes but nothing to wear – your wardrobe is crammed to capacity but finding something to wear is impossible.
3. Important papers and documents disappear – paper piles grow and grow but bills and school notices get lost and forgotten.
4. Late fees and penalties for overdue videos and library books are a regular occurrence.
5. Storage space – what storage space?
6. There are growing, nagging areas of clutter in your home and life that you try not to think about.
7. Some areas of your home can't actually be used for their intended purpose any more because of the clutter.
8. Unexpected visitors cause you too much stress so it's best to pretend you are not in.
9. You have no time to relax and enjoy friends and family.
10. Life in general feels overwhelming and out of control.

If any of these signs seem familiar – your life and home are too cluttered.

But don't worry help and advice is around the corner.
Next time I will introduce you to my first tip for getting rid of clutter forever, so you can start to relax and enjoy your space and life again.
