Football:Rick Waghorn believes a 'safe' Norwich City could prove to be a nuisance to their opponents

I suspect the collective sigh of relief that greeted the final whistle on Saturday could be heard all the way down the A140 as the Canaries laid several of their relegation ghosts to rest.
I say 'several'. Quite what this season's safety mark will finally finish at is still anyone's guess. It won't be 49 points, that is certain.

Hence why many an eye will not turn to the home game with Burnley as the one that all but make Norwich's 'Great Escape' complete.

And that's the other, real danger – that people lose sight of just what Glenn Roeder has already achieved over the last five months. For Norwich were gone; dead and buried late last autumn.

That fact needs to be underlined as and when we all finally cross the finishing line.

At which point, the pressure will be finally off; Norwich will have nothing else much to lose for the remainder of the season.

They can just go out and play their stuff; relegation can be someone's else problem for the last few weeks of the season.

Which makes them such a dangerous beast as far as Gary Johnson this week and Jim Magilton in a few weeks time are concerned.

The teams that you want to be playing are those with a nervous edge; that are hesitant and unsure; that know one slip now could be fatal.

With nothing to play for but themselves, Norwich can play as they please. And that's a worry.

For on the back of those last two defeats, Johnson knows that his Bristol City side could see that automatic promotion slot ripped from his hands this weekend if the care-free Canaries turn up with their minds set on having a decent day-out.

Roll the clock on a couple of weeks, and if that home game with Burnley delivers another three points and, say, the likes of Southampton and Leicester slip ever further into the mire, then the Canaries could have even less to worry about going into derby day.

In fact, the only thing that they might have to worry about then will be simply over-turning Town's play-off apple cart.

Jim, by contrast, will be looking over his shoulder between now and the end of the season as the play-off fight gets ever more intense.

If you were Magilton you would be keeping every finger crossed that first Bristol and then Burnley can do you a big favour before then and make damn sure Norwich have still got everything to play for come derby day in a fortnight's time.

Don't let them arrive at Portman Road with nothing to play for.
