There has been much talk among Town fans about where exactly Ivan Campo would be best deployed for the Blues since his signing earlier this month.
The veteran Spaniard earned his reputation as a no-nonsense centre-back at Real Mallorca, before getting a dream move to Real Madrid, where he won a Champions League medal at the heart of Los Merengues' back four.

But when Sam Allardyce took Campo to Bolton, he converted the former Spain international into a defensive midfielder and Campo showed against Colchester on Tuesday this is where Blues chief Jim Magilton must use him.

His distribution and awareness just in front of the back four was a key component in the 2-1 win and gave Town's flair players the kind of platform they have been crying out for, safe in the knowledge Campo could cover for them.

He was caught in possession on a couple of occasions but once he has attained full match fitness he will adjust to the hurly burly of the Championship. Tuesday was the first competitive action he has tasted since playing for Bolton against Tottenham at the end of last season.

Despite this, it was noticeable how the Blues' performance level dropped against the U's when Campo was substituted in the second half.

The discipline he provided by breaking up play in midfield was no longer there and Colchester looked a threat every time they went forward and fully deserved Steven Gillespie's clever strike.

The introduction of Campo has given Town a timely boost following successive home defeats against Preston and Wolves. But Magilton has not stopped there in his search for more quality.

At the time of writing, Moritz Volz looks to be on his way to Ipswich on a season-long loan deal, while another striker will arrive before the transfer window closes on Monday.

The fear for me is that many more arrivals are likely to muddy Magilton's thinking even further with the Northern Irishman still clearly undecided on what his best starting XI is.

Is Volz that much of an improvement on David Wright at right-back? Wright has always been a dependable performer but it looks like the former Crewe man may have to get used to life on the bench should the former German Under-21 international sign.

Competition for places is essential, but the right wing of the side last season was one of the major plus points in my opinion.

Wright and Jon Walters developed an excellent understanding and to break that up to accommodate Volz seems to complicate matters.
