When Crowded House split up in 1996 they went out in grand style, playing to 200,000 people from the steps of Sydney Opera House.
Thankfully they decided to reform ten years later, bringing out a great new album and started touring again with Thetford being the last UK date of this current jaunt.

Rather ironically I was stuck in traffic so missed support act The Delays, but arrived in good time to see the headliners.

With no great fanfare, Crowded House strolled on to stage and went straight into their first number, When She Comes, following it with two hours of shimmering, intelligent pop.

A great mix of classic and new songs showed a band providing what the crowd wanted while not resting on their laurels by just playing their greatest hits.

Much singing-along ensued and while Don't Dream It's Over was maybe a little muted, other tracks such as Pineapple Head, Four Seasons In One Day and Fall At Your Feet were absolutely stunning.

The thing that surprised most was the band's ability to really rock out, most notably with Locked Out and extended set closer Private Universe whipping up a storm.

Having waited for years to see them live it was well worth it and provided one of the highlights of the year.

The forest provided a lovely venue, the band was in great form and humour – it didn't rain and the music was even better than I could have dreamt.

It really was a perfect evening.
